Let’s get to know Yessenia Villacorta, All Peoples Community Center’s FSC Case Manager:

Favorite Food: Aguachiles

Favorite Color: Black

Favorite Quote:“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

How would you describe All Peoples Community Center: Since 1942, All Peoples has been a place of opportunities and empowerment. We are a team that dedicates our time to uplift families by providing them with tools and resources. Our families are self-determined to make their own choices, and we encourage them to complete their goals. We provide a range of services and programs for the community to educate and empower our children, individuals, seniors, and families in the community. All Peoples is filled with opportunities for a multicultural South Central Los Angeles community.

Favorite Part of Your Job: My favorite part of my job is when our clients achieve their personal goals. In our Citizenship Class, I get to see individuals study Civic questions and learn about U.S. History. Most importantly, I get to celebrate their accomplishments after they pass their citizenship exam.

My best All Peoples story: My best All Peoples Story is from December 2018 when APCC provided Holiday presents and donations to families in need. The families and youths were able to provide wish lists. Although they were not promised everything on the list, it was a rewarding feeling, seeing the families receive items like a microwave, clothing items, and Holiday presents for their children. Smiles, hugs, and tears of joy were shared within the families. We made Holiday wishes come true that day and it was a beautiful experience. Thank you Animo Jefferson Charter Middle School for the support you provided to our families.

Hobbies: Hiking, dancing, listening to music, and traveling

Fun Fact About Me/Hidden Talent: In my freshman year of high school, I joined the swim team without knowing how to swim. Not only did I have to learn how to swim but I also had to learn all the strokes. I eventually learned freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly stroke. I improved on my backstroke and was able to compete in a national level.

Me in 3 Words: Adventurous, Driven, and Determined

We’re so happy that Yessenia is part of our All Peoples Family!

About All Peoples Community Center

All Peoples Community Center (All Peoples) is an all-encompassing neighborhood center whose mission is to provide social services and programs that empower individuals and promote community, respect, and self-determination for all.

Founded in 1942, All Peoples has served as a true safe haven and trusted place for low-income children and families in South Los Angeles.  Today, All Peoples provides a myriad of social and educational services to more than 6,600 people per year in its 20,000-square-foot center located in a residential area of South LA’s Vernon-Central neighborhood, immediately south of downtown Los Angeles. All Peoples is a vibrant hub of activity for children, youth, and families six days a week, year-round. Services include licensed extended day childcare, after school programs, academic tutoring, a computer lab, summer camp, summer jobs, an alternative high school, workforce development and career assistance, financial literacy and education, parenting classes, domestic violence support groups, food distribution, a community micro-garden, a senior volunteer program, and more.
