We collaborate with International Institute of Los Angeles to provide licensed childcare for children 2-5. State preschool classes are provided too.
We offer academic, sports and recreation opportunities; computer training; and enrichment activities, like art & crafts and gardening. We weave in lessons on team-building and leadership into these programs. For grades 1-12, we have summer day camp, educational & cultural excursions; and outings to local colleges & universities, museums, libraries, and parks.
Children 8-12 enjoy 6 days & 5 nights of quality outdoor activities in San Bernardino Mountains. They participate in swimming, hiking, archery, crafts, nature walks, and more. Living in family-style arrangements, they improve their interpersonal skills and self-esteem.
In partnership with CRCD (Coalition for Responsible Community Development), All Peoples Community Center provides youth 16-24 (mainly low-income high school seniors) with work readiness, career exploration, job skills training, tutoring, and college preparation. To help participants complete the program, the case manager arranges mentoring and counseling.
We partner with USC School of Social Work and California State University’s Los Angeles, Dominquez Hills, and Northridge campuses to place their BSW and MSW students in internships. We do the same for students of local community colleges.
Local individuals and families receive a bag of groceries, including fresh fruits and vegetables, each month to supplement their food supply. We also give program participants information on other food resources and help them access these. And during emergencies, we distribute relief material like diapers and hygiene products.
Topics discussed include nutrition, nurturing, developmental stages of children, family planning, child abuse prevention, acceptable forms of discipline, and community resources. Parents also participate in group activities.
The Domestic Violence Support Group is designed to improve understanding of the cycle of violence and its impact on the family. Victims receive legal assistance, emergency assistance, clothing, housing, and resources for education and economic independence. Another women’s support group is MEJOR (Mujeres En Justa Organizacion Reciproca).
Individuals referred by schools or courts can complete their community service hours at our center.
Our Community Garden All Peoples Community Center has a new 6,000 ft2 garden (across the street from our center, in what was an empty parking lot), nutrition classes, and a free food distribution program, all of which have been shown to increase participants’ intake of fruits and vegetables. Our network participated in Los Angeles Food Policy Council’s efforts to create a Los Angeles County tax credit for property owners utilizing land for urban agriculture.
