COVID-19 Didn’t Stop Him: All Peoples Community Center in partnership with CRCD Vernon-Central/LATTC WorkSource Center Offers Employment and Training Assistance During A Pandemic

Adrian Mora is a 22-year old Latino male who currently attends the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and was made aware of the Vernon-Central/LATTC WorkSource Center through the signage he saw across campus. Adrian discloses he had been unemployed since 2018 by personal choice as he wanted to focus this time and energy on his academics. However, with the demands of our current economic situation Adrian decided he needed assistance finding a job and attended an orientation back in February 2020. He was deemed eligible for the WIOA Adult program and was assigned to All Peoples Career Coach Angel Garcia for one-on-one assistance.

It was during the initial consultation that Adrian brought in his resume and it was apparent he had a prior history in law enforcement, particularly, working as a Cadet for the Los Angeles Police Department. Career Coach Angel worked with Adrian to identify his strengths and weaknesses, as well as his goals and objectives. He particularly assisted Adrian in revamping his resume and cover letter. It was just a matter of time before Career Coach Angel helped Adrian enroll in the Safe and Secure Environment Assessor training in order to help establish himself in a new line of work.

As of August 2020, Adrian began working as a Security Professional with Allied Universal Security Services. Adrian is glad he was able to obtain an employment position during a time when it seemed impossible. He shares, “I am grateful to my Career Coach for providing very good interviewing techniques because I needed help with that. I am also grateful for obtaining my guard card which helped me land this job opportunity.” Adrian is a great example of using resources in the community to gain the skills needed to obtain employment and live a self-determined quality way of life.
