In 1956 All Peoples Church became a host for a refugee family from Germany.  Meet Mrs. Ericka Wehrberg, an escapee from Estonia Germany. She has three girls 15, 13, and 7 and a four year old boy. Since 1942, her family has been resided in six different refugee camps.  Her dossier read:

She has had difficulty in caring for her children in providing a decent place to live. Although she is interested in textile or domestic work she cannot find employment. She lives on welfare assistance or charity and it is not enough to properly care for four children. She wants to emigrate to the U.S. to give her children a better chance in life then she has had for herself.

She is not the type of person who enjoys unemployment and would rather be working hard, than sitting around all day wondering where the next meal is coming from. She has no living relatives in Germany or anywhere.

All Peoples Church welcomed Mrs. Wehrberg and her four children to Los Angeles as refugees. An apartment was provided and employment. Members collected clothing, home furnishing, food and all the items a family would need to resettle in the states.

All Peoples Christian Church and Community Center has always had a heart for refugees and immigrants. Today that heart is demonstrated in our partnership with Central American Resource Center (CARECEN). We host immigrant’s rights workshops, assistance with DACA renewals, and U –Visas. Our goal is to ensure that today all people who are looking to provide their children a better chance in life then they have for themselves are supported in their efforts.
