ABOUT ALL PEOPLES
Founded in 1942, to sustain a community decimated by the internment of its largely Japanese-American residents, All Peoples has been a hub of vital resources for a neighborhood that has changed from Japanese-American, to African-American, to Latino today.  All Peoples has been the very heart of a community, roughly defined by the 90011 area code and home to 130,000 people, just southwest of downtown Los Angeles.  The Center serves hundreds of people of all ages, six days a week, with an extensive menu of educational, financial literacy, health empowerment, and family support programs at its facility just southwest of downtown Los Angeles.  Give us a call today at (213) 747-6357, or Email to find out how you can get involved!  Real Solutions, Real Heart, Real Service to South LA since 1942.

Real Solutions and Service to South LA

Crystal Ortga (right) with College Advisor Elizabeth Martinez

Crystal is an 18 year old graduate from Santee High School, and will be attending Humboldt State University in the Fall of 2018 as a full-time student.

Meet Crystal Ortga.  Crystal grew up in our South LA Community, and is a long time member of All Peoples Community Center attending programs at the Center since she was eight years old. Her Parents are also very active members at All Peoples participating in various programs.  Crystal’s Parents encouraged her along with her siblings to attend our After-School Programs, Summer Day Camp, and Camp Joe Ide along with many other activities held at the Center throughout the year.

Crystal has been very active in Civic Engagement and giving back to her Community through our YouthSource Program. This past Summer, Crystal was an academic tutor for elementary school children enrolled in programs at All Peoples. She also led a group of girls ages ten and eleven for a week at All Peoples Camp Joe Ide as a Camp Counselor where she coordinated activities for the Youth.

Crystal graduated from Santee High School in June of 2018, and was accepted to Humboldt State University for Fall 2018 Classes. All Peoples Community and FamilySource Center assisted Crystal in seeking a sponsor for her traveling and moving expenses to the University.

Through Crystal’s hard work, dedication, Family, Community, and seeking available resources, we are happy to report that Crystal is currently at Humboldt University in Northern California and ready to start her 12 unit class semester!  We wish Crystal the very best, and look forward to keeping you updated on her journey!

My Best All Peoples Story: During our Summer Program, we helped motivate the younger students by encouraging them to do their very best with all activities so they can become Junior Camp Counselors when they turn 15 (also known as CITs – Counselors in Training). It was such a great success that all of our students wanted to participate. They would say, “By the time we are 15, we will be ready to join the Summer Day Camp and be CITs.” The excitement that showed on their faces, because they were able to help out and be part of a team, was one of a kind.
